This method of writing and text adaptation seeks to simplify form, content, and language.

It facilitates access to and the comprehension of information for people with intellectual disabilities, but also for those who have difficulty reading or poor schooling, including those whose first language is not that of the original text.

These are a few characteristics:

● Using short sentences and simple words.
● Providing descriptions.
● Including only one idea per phrase.
● Avoiding technical terms, metaphors, or confusing comparisons.
● Using images and shapes alongside explanations.
● Avoiding justifying text to the right.

Although there is no universal method to produce easy read texts, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and Inclusion Europe have developed international guidelines. The Asociación Lectura Fácil from Spain verifies if these guidelines are met and validates with the LF logo the material that does comply (Asociación Lectura Fácil, n.d.).
