Genderqueer

(Genderqueer)

This is a broad term that includes multiple gender expressions and describes any gender identity beyond the binary of manwoman. It is generally associated with the trans community. Genderqueer people can identify with various genders, with neither, or they can go from one gender to another (genderfluid). Being genderqueer does not imply a specific sexual orientation; they can be bisexual, gay, lesbian, asexual, etc.

This should not be confused with non-binary gender or queer. Non-binary people identify with a category that is not man or woman, and they do not allude to a political identity. On the other hand, queer people identify with a political identity that revindicates it against cisheteropatriarchy. Sometimes, queer people are part of the genderqueer category.

The term genderqueer also entails a series of experiences that encompass each one of the gender identities and expressions that are part of it, without specifying which one. Some genderqueer people call themselves a man woman or a woman man to identify themselves and give it political significance, which is why it is associated to the trans community.
