The concept of man is a term used in biology to classify humans in relation to their male reproductive system (penis and testicles). It is usually linked to masculinity, which is a gender expression based on cisheteronormativity.
Since the ancient social construction, men have been identified with determined gender roles, expression, and identity. If someone’s reproductive system was biologically masculine but they did not act as established, based on normativity they were not considered a man. Expressions such as ‘not much of a man’ or ‘you’re not a man’ were used negatively against men who did not act within the established standards.
In cisheteropatriarchy, men are considered as individuals with more rights than other people due to the mere fact of being men. Currently, the concept of man has expanded its meaning and it has adapted to new diversities. There are many types of men, each one with a different corporeality and life experience.
